BREC opens emergency camps for children age 4 to 12
Now that many local schools have been canceled and many parents are required to go back to work, BREC has acted quickly to repair buildings and bring in staff to host several emergency camps across East Baton Rouge Parish.
The camps are being held at Independence, Highland, Jackson, Cedar Ridge Park, Zachary Community Parks and T.D. Bickham Park in Baker. Parents may register their children onsite and may choose from paying $14 a day or $50 a week. Younger children will be separated from older children. Camps are open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
BREC staff members are also visiting shelters with Geaux Mobile Recreation units and a traveling team of artists and volunteers from Baton Rouge Gallery to give children in the shelters healthy activities and creative outlets while they stay in the River Center, Celtic Studios, F.G. Clark Activity Center and other smaller shelters.
Select BREC recreation centers and special use facilities will also be open today.
