When butterflies flap their wings, the tiny scales that form the creatures’ characteristic vibrant colors and intricate designs fly into the air like confetti. While often invisible to the naked eye, the very flight of the graceful insect is a celebration, making butterflies the perfect theme for a girl’s sixth birthday party.

“Some girlfriends and I went to Provisions on Perkins one night, and when I saw the pink room I knew I had to use it for something,” Michelle Beauboeuf explains. “The room seemed so perfect for a kid’s party because of its color, and because it’s called the Butterfly Lounge. It seemed like an obvious choice.”

Enlisting the help of local vendors, Beauboeuf, who owns local stationery and gift shop The Queen Bee, took to transforming the back bar room of the Perkins Road restaurant into a fantasy fit for a more than a dozen young girls.

“I hate having parties at my house,” Beauboeuf admits with a laugh. “They’re so much work and something always goes wrong. With a location like Provisions, we were able to use minimal decorations because the room was already so great.”

With elements including a flower-crown-making activity and a menu featuring rainbow cake and chicken and waffles made to look like a butterfly, Beauboeuf says the key to a successfully executing a theme is getting creative and teaming up with professionals.

“When you work with local people, you can come up with incredible ideas,” she says. “We each have our lanes, so when we team up it’s amazing.”
