5 national interior design trends Streamline can help you bring home

Whether you’re updating a single room or starting fresh, these five trends will help you create a home that feels stylish, functional, and effortless. Designer Jill Cascio Boullion with Streamline Interiors & More shares this year’s top trends for what she calls “livable luxury.”

1) Small Changes, Big Impact

You don’t need a full renovation to see a big difference.

A few well-chosen updates, like updating your drapery, changing out hardware to brass or gold finishes, or swapping out your bedding for a new, fresh color can completely transform the mood of a room.

And don’t forget about upholstery.  “One of the biggest parts of my business is helping clients play with fabric swatches in our design center and having their sofa or accent chairs recovered to reinvent their space,” Bouillion says.

2) Minimal, but Luxe

The “quiet luxury” trend emphasizes high-end finishes and minimalist design.

“Instead of filling a space with trendy, online decor, invest in fewer, well-made pieces that stand the test of time,” Boullion says.

Declutter what doesn’t serve you, invest in what does, and let your space reflect what really matters. Quiet luxury is about being intentional, focusing on quality and timelessness.

3) Make a Statement

“Color is finally back, but it’s all about restraint,” says Boullion

Start small if you’re feeling hesitant. “The trick is to pick a moment,” she advises. “Choose one standout feature; keep everything else neutral to let that feature take center stage.”

An easy way to dip your toes into bold design is to wallpaper a powder bath. Streamline carries a wide selection of wallpaper and will source the perfect pattern for you.

4) Wellness-Focused Design

Design is shifting toward what feels and works well, not just what looks good.

“With wellness at home being a priority, designing stylish and restorative spaces is crucial,” Boullion says.

Incorporate natural elements like wood, stone, or greenery. Choose performance fabrics that are both soft and durable. Select furniture with visual lightness to make rooms feel airy and expansive.

5) Spaces that Flex

According to Boullion, you should “aim for your home to make you thrive and support your day-to-day life.”

Homes are multitasking more than ever, so rooms need to be versatile.

Embrace a “two-for” or multifunctional items that serve multiple purposes.

“Transform a traditional guest room into a flex room that can serve as an office, hobby space or prayer room when you’re not accommodating visitors,” Boullion suggests.

In open floor plans, create zones that feel purposeful and polished, like a homework station or a cozy “give me a minute” nook through strategic rug and furniture placement.

Trends Unique to Baton Rouge

Locally, we’re seeing a beautiful blend of tradition and edge. One favorite is the blend of Southern charm with modern aesthetics.

“Think classic brick floors and exposed wood beams, the charm, with contemporary art and clean-lined furniture, the attitude,” Boullion says.

Reclaimed cypress, arched openings, and heritage pieces are being used in new, exciting ways.

Porches and patios are being designed like indoor lounges with more intention to serve as a gathering space reflecting our Southern hospitality.
