Joe Mustachia’s colorful, eye-catching artworks typically feature a Louisiana scene, whether a New Orleans streetcar or the limbs of a live oak tree. His distinctive style—which he compares to Jackson Pollock’s famous paint splattering technique—and deep love for Louisiana made him the perfect choice for Governor Jeff Landry when he commissioned two large paintings to hang in his New Orleans Saints Superdome suite.

Mustachia says it was very special to create something for Landry. He finally settled on painting the Louisiana Governor’s Seal and members of a marching band, both with cohesive coloring.

“Even though the seal is laid out exactly as it was supposed to be, I wanted to add texture, color and my unique style,” he explains. “I’ve never done anything of this caliber, so I’m extremely grateful that they reached out to me to do this special project.”

Never having been to the Governor’s Mansion before, Mustachia says it was a great first trip to deliver the paintings himself.  “I had never seen anything like that, so it just made my team and I feel really good,” he says.
