Arts around town: Tony N Tina at Theatre Baton Rouge, LSU School of Art’s annual Summer Exhibition, and more
Here are a few art-related events taking place in Baton Rouge this week:
CKA: currently known as is a group of dance artists based in Baton Rouge. They will be performing Enough, a year-long dance that explores the concept of “enough” through a series of 12 performances that are interconnected and continuous. There will be a performance each month that relates to the previous month’s performance. Their second performance will be at the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge this Friday, July 15, at 7 p.m. Admission is $15 at the door, and there will be refreshments for all. Theatre Baton Rouge is bringing back Tony N Tina’s Wedding this July with its new partner, Krewe of Apollo. This improvisational dinner theatre show will return July 15, 16, 22 and 23 at 7 p.m. as mayhem and insanity disrupt the wedding of a beloved couple. Tickets are $35 and include dinner. The LSU School of Art’s Glassell Gallery is hosting it’s 15th annual Summer Invitational Art Exhibition until August 14. More than 50 artists have created works depicting their thoughts about the Mississippi River and are displaying their art during the How High’s the Water, Mama? exhibit. One outstanding artist will receive the Michael Crespo Prize for Excellence at the reception, held Saturday, July 16, from 7 to 9 p.m. For more information, go to design.lsu.edu.
New Venture Theatre is hosting Hands Up! Seven Playwrights, 7 Testaments at the LSU Shaver Theatre this Saturday, July 16, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. The performance showcases the voices of six black male playwrights as they explore their feelings about the wellbeing of black men in our culture.
