What to do this weekend: Ryan’s Run

What began as an effort to bring the Baton Rouge community together in support of those with sickle cell disease has turned into a powerful event that takes over the downtown area each year. Former Chief Operating Officer of the Sickle Cell Association of South Louisiana (SCASL), Lorri Burgess, who passed away in 2020, partnered with former NFL star Ryan Clark to elevate the event. Now in its tenth year, the annual fundraiser is bigger than ever.

“This event has helped raise the visibility of sickle cell disease in Baton Rouge while also providing critical support to individuals and families who often face significant gaps in care,” says Ryan’s Run Chair, Erin Coleman.

Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) is an inherited red blood disorder that affects 1 in 375 African Americans and 100,000 Americans. Ryan’s Run works to raise awareness, promote advocacy and action. This year’s event will feature activities like a wellness village, vendor market, a live DJ and more family-friendly experiences.
